Hazards of Smoking

Posted: Friday, September 03, 2010 1:01:50 AM

The reason for the soaring number of smokers could be due to ignorance of the number of diseases caused by smoking. It is very important that people realize the hazards of smoking and choose to quit by some natural method or Quit smoking pill . Smoking affects almost all the parts of the body.

The effects of smoking on the respiratory system include irritation of the trachea, which is the wind pipe and the larynx, which is the voice box. Smoking leads to secretion of excess mucous in the lung passages and swelling and narrowing of the lung airways. This in turn leads to breathlessness and reduced lung function. Smoking impairs the lung clearing system and leads to deposition of poisonous substances. Smoking damages the sir sacks and increases the risk of lung infection.

Smoking affects the circulatory system by increasing the heart beat and blood pressure. Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen carried by blood and makes the blood stickier and more prone to clots. It also reduces the flow of blood to the extremities like fingers and toes. The risks of developing heart attacks and stroke increase due to blockage of the blood supply.

Smoking affects the immune system also. The smoker becomes more prone to pneumonia and influenza. Due to lower immunity the illnesses are more severe and it takes longer to get over them.

Smoking leads to the tightening of certain muscles and reduces bone density. It leads to inflammation and irritation of the stomach and intestines. It also increases the risk of developing ulcers along the digestive tract. Smoking reduces the ability to smell and taste. It may also lead to wrinkling of the skin, increased risk of blindness and gum disease.
