In October Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) Virginia Health System has announced a launch of a new South Virginia market - LewisGale Regional System. This creation of the integrated health care system has been in works for the past 3 years. The system includes 4 hospitals, 2 regional cancer centers, 6 outpatient centers and 26 site locations where their 135 providers practice. Also, 550 independent physicians at more than 160 locations, throughout the region, are now connected to the health system through medical staff affiliations with the systems 4 hospitals, or their reliance on the systems physicians to care for patients in need of specialty or subspecialty care. Among services and centers offered by this new integrated system are; Heart centers, Cancer centers, Bone, Joint and Spine specialists, Breast Centers, Diagnostic Imaging Services, Diabetes Centers, Behavioral Health Centers, Maternity Centers, Advanced Wound Centers and more.
By having all of the patient care facilities closely aligned, and with the physicians and staff becoming a part of one team, they ensure that "patients have access to the right physician and the right facility at the right time" according to V.Giovanetti, the president of LewisGale Regional System.
