Colon Cancer Operation Causing the Blood Clot and Dead of the Both Leg!!!

1) Why the blood clot can happen after the colon surgery? Is that normal? Or cause by a mistake during a surgery?
2) If the blood clot, how long its take to totally causing the dead of both of the legs or lower part of the body?
3) Any symptom or sign to shown the blood clot before scanning? Any prevention or immediate action can be taken to prevent the legs from fully dead?
Really need all you professional advices. Appreciated on your helps and thanks
