Fibromyalgia pain relief

Posted: Monday, May 04, 2009 2:10:38 AM
Fibromyalgia is a very common pain condition and everyone who has it knows how much it can hurt (even though doctors often don't understand this!). Painkillers like NSAIDs and narcotic painkillers can be helpful and the FDA has approved three drugs (two SNRI antidepressants and one anticonvulsants) for the treatment of fibromyalgia, but these aren't the only options. There are hundreds of medications that can help fibromyalgia - not just pain, but other symptoms like fatigue, poor sleep and cognitive problems as well.

"Reviving the Broken Marionette: Treatments for CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia" features over 250 medications for the treatment of these two illnesses. Everything is based on science and/or the experience of prominent experts and there are over 1,000 references. Most people can't be cured, but 90% relief of symptoms is often possible.

If pain is the primary fibromyalgia symptom, physician may prescribe a prescription pain reliever, an anticonvulsant, or an antidepressant. Antidepressants are very helpful in relieving fibromyalgia pain and improve deep restorative sleep. They work by balancing serotonin and other brain chemicals.
