Janet
I am new to this chat forum. My husband has been taking Lipitor for a couple of years. His numbers came down and then he started having leg pain. He stopped taking it and had blood drawn a few days ago and his numbers are up, including his liver enzymes. His Tryglicerides are down and HDL is up, but the LDL is up also. What can they give him to help if it damages his liver? Has anyone had any experience with this? I have been feeding only healthy foods, and added oat bran, flax seed, garlic capsules as well as Omega 3 and Artichoke extract. His mother had high cholesterol and was on Mevacor for years. Any suggestions??

Hi Janet,
Up to 20% can't take the statins due to side effects that include liver damage and damage to muscles. Sometimes these side effects can be serious and result in having to stop the medications.
There is a clinically proven natural alternative with Bios Life Complete. It's hard for a person to get the right amount of fiber in their diet, and Bios Life helps with this, plus works 4 ways to lower cholesterol without side effects. Several clinical studies have shown a real benefit, and it's listed in the PDR as well.
You might want to check out Bios Life at Womenshealthshoppe.com.

Hi Janet,
One thing I learned from a Dr is... there is no safe drug. Why take drug to get the same effect in a natural food substance? Have you heard of the fruit called the mangosteen? Probably not as it is primarily grown in Southeast Asia. It has been used in traditional medicine for over thousands of years. And Xanthones, which are found richly in the pericarp (or rind) of the fruit is the subject of extensive positive research. I know of a Dr who actually replaces drug with the mangosteen juice! In his article that I read, he says that "mangosteen equals or outperforms the following prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs", and included in his list are Lipitor, Zocor, Pravacol and other lipid-lowering agents. He advocates the use of the mangosteen juice as it is 100% natural, xanthone-rich (powerful anti-oxidants), and no adverse side-effect. Me and my husband are drinking the juice too because it has anti-tumor benefits as well (I had a portion of my colon removed 7 yrs ago because of tumor growth). Here's a link that you may find helpful to understand more of this miracle fruit. By the way, this fruit juice is not found in health stores. Me and my husband got it from a distributor. Let me know if you're interested. You and your husband has nothing to lose...

Supplementation with mangosteen, coupled with regular exercise and healthy diet, are found to help lower the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides and bad cholesterol LDL (low-density lipoprotein), while raising the good cholesterol.
Scientific research studies have revealed that gamma mangosteen , a xanthone found in mangosteen, is a powerful antioxidant that showed more potent activities than vitamin E. It prevents the oxidation of bad cholesterol or LDL, which is responsible for clogging the arteries, leading to serious cardiovascular consequences.
The cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme (COX-2) which is linked to the inflammatory process, is known to be inhibited by gamma mangosteen. Low level inflammation is often associated with high cholesterol levels.
Polyphenols, also present in mangosteen, were discovered to be five times more potent than vitamin C as to its antioxidant properties.

Lipitor is a cholesterol lowering medication, I think in able to attain the effecacy of the drugs you need to eat a high fiber diet, low salt, low fat diet. Also you need to have daily exercise routine.
