trimethylglycine

trimethylglycine Description

This organic compound was originally named betaine after its discovery in sugar beets in the 19th century. This substance is often called glycine betaine to make it easier to tell it from other betaines that are widely distributed in biology. Betaine hydrochloride is simply glycine betaine with a chloride counterion and is usually the first crystallized form obtained after extraction from beets.
