Hafnium

Hafnium Description

This substance is a chemical element that has the symbol Hf and atomic number 72. It lustrous, silvery gray, tetravalent transition metal, hafnium chemically resembles zirconium and is found in zirconium minerals. It was predicted by Mendeleev in 1869 and in 1914 Henry Moseley noticed that element 72 was still missing. Hafnium was the second-to-last element with stable isotopes to be discovered. It was found by Dirk Coster and Georg von Hevesy in 1923 in Copenhagen, Denmark, who originally named it Hafnia after the Latin name of "Copenhagen"
