Causes Of Achilles Tendon Rupture

Most often, ruptures of the Achilles tendon occur at a spot of the tendon where it receives less blood flow.  This may weaken that section of the tendon which also tends to degenerate with age.  They are usually caused by sudden increase in the ammount of stress on the Achilles tendon.

Most common examples include:

  • Occasional or increased participation in recreational sports
  • Falling from a height
  • Stepping into a hole
