Acoustic Neuroma Health Center

Acoustic neuroma is a benign (non cancerous) tumor that grows slowly. It develops adjacent to the brain on a part of the eighth cranial nerve, which runs from the brain to the inner ear. It is also known as vestibular schwannoma, it is one of the most common types of brain tumors. Symptoms, like hearing loss, develop due to the tumor pressing on the nerve, however the tumor will not invade the brain tissue like cancerous tumors do. It is not uncommon that the acoustic neuroma remains so small that it never causes any problems for the person affected with it. Treatments include radiation and surgical removal.
