Acute Sinusitis Health Center

Acute sinusitis causes the cavities around nasal passages (sinuses) to become inflamed and swollen. This will interfere with drainage which causes mucus to build up. It is a common condition which is also called acute rhinosinusitis. When suffering from acute sinusitis, it may be difficult to breathe through the nose, and the area around the eyes and face may feel swollen, and may also cause throbbing facial pain and headaches. It is most often caused by the common cold, but can also be caused by bacteria, allergies and fungal infections. The treatments depend on the cause, however in most cases home remedies are all that is really needed. If sinusitis persists, it can lead to serious infections and other complications. Sinusitis that lasts more than 8 weeks is known as chronic sinusitis.
