Addison's Disease Health Center

Addison's disease is a disorder which occurs when the body produces insufficient amounts of certain hormones which are produced by the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands produce too little cortisol and quite often insufficient levels of aldosterone. Also known as hypocortisolism, it occurs in all age groups and affects both sexes, and can be life threatening. The treatment for Addison's disease involves hormone replacement therapy to raise the amounts of the hormones which the adrenal glands are not making in sufficient amounts.
