Adenomyosis Health Center

Adenomyosis is a condition where endometrial tissue which normally lines the uterus, is present within and grows into muscular walls of the uterus. It most often happens in late childbearing years, usually well after having children. Adenomyosis is not the same thing as endometriosis, a condition where the uterine lining becomes implanted outside the uterus, even though most women who suffer from adenomyosis often also suffer from endometriosis. The cause of adenomyosis is not known but the disease usually disappears after menopause. Women who experience severe pain or discomfort due to adenomyosis can be treated to help with the pain/discomfort, but the only cure is hysterectomy.
