Agoraphobia Health Center

Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder related to fear. People suffering from agoraphobia fear being in places where it might be difficult or embarrassing to get out quickly or where they might have a panic attack and would not be able to get help. Due to these symptoms the sufferers often avoid places where they think they may have a panic attack or panic like symptoms. People with agoraphobia usually have a heart time feeling safe in a public place, especially around crowds. Most commonly feared places are elevators, lines, bridges, public transport, shopping malls, airplanes and such. The fear can be so overwhelming that some sufferers are essentially trapped in their own homes as they might be the only place where they feel safe, and so they avoid venturing out into public all together. Treatments for agoraphobia is challenging as it often means that the person will have to face their fears. Medications, combined with psychotherapy can help the sufferers escape the trap of agoraphobia and live a more enjoyable life.
