Alzheimer's Disease Health Center

Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia, loss of intellectual and social abilities severe enough to interfere with daily functioning. Alzheimer's disease causes the healthy brain tissue to degenerate, causing a steady decline in memory and mental abilities. Though it is not a part of normal aging, the risk of the disorder increases with age. Around 5% of people between the ages of 65 and 74 have Alzheimer's disease, while almost 50% of the people over the age of 85 suffer from it. Though there is no cure, treating it may improve the quality of life for the sufferers.
