Amnesia Health Center

Amnesia, also known as amnestic syndrome, refers to a condition where a person loses memories, such as facts, information and experiences. Though often portrayed in the movies as resulting in the loss of self identity, the real-life amnesia generally does not have that effect on the sufferer. Those with amnesia are usually lucid and are aware of who they are, but might have trouble learning new information or forming new memories. Amnesia can be caused by damage to the areas of the brain which are vital for processing memory. Though it is not the rule, the amnestic syndrome can be permanent. While there is no specific treatment for amnesia, techniques for enhancing memory and psychological support can help those with amnesia and their families cope.
