Aortic Aneurysm Health Center

An aortic aneurysm is a weakened and bulging area in the aorta, a major blood vessel which feeds blood to the body. About the thickness of a garden hose, aorta runs from the heart through the center of the chest and abdomen. Since the aorta is the body's main supplier of blood, a ruptured aortic aneurysm can cause severe life threatening bleeding. Majority of the small and slow growing aortic aneurysms do not rupture, but the large fast growing ones might. Depending on the size and rate of growth of the aortic aneurysm, treatment can range from watchful waiting to emergency surgery.
