Autonomic neuropathy is a nerve disorder which affects involuntary body functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, perspiration and digestion. Autonomic neuropathy is not a specific disease, instead it refers to damage to the autonomic nerves. This damage disrupts signals between the brain and portions of the autonomic nervous system, resulting in decreased or abnormal performance of one or more involuntary body functions. Autonomic neuropathy can be a complications from a number of diseases and conditions, as well as a side-effect from certain medications.
