Bacterial vaginosis is a type of vaginal inflammation which results from overgrowth of one of several types of bacteria normally present in the vagina, upsetting the natural balance of vaginal bacteria. Most commonly affected by bacterial vaginosis are women in their reproductive years, but any woman can experience the condition. While the exact cause is unknown, certain activities like unprotected sex, can increase the risk of the condition.
