Bile Reflux Health Center

Bile reflux occurs when bile, a digestive fluid produced in the liver, flows upward from the small intestine into the stomach and esophagus. It is often accompanied by acid reflux, the back flow of stomach acids into the esophagus. Together bile and acid reflux can have serious consequences, inflaming the lining of the esophagus and potentially increasing the risk of esophageal cancer.
