A brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins which interrupts the normal flow of blood between them. A congenital AVM can develop anywhere in the body, but it most often occurs in the brain or spine. A brain AVM, which appears as tangles of normal and dilated blood vessels can occur in any part of the brain and the cause of it is not clear.
