Breast Pain Health Center

Mastalgia, breast pain, is a common complaint among women. The pain has been described as chronic tenderness, sharp burning or tightness in the breast tissue, and can be either constant or occasional. In some cases women have severe breast pain occurring more than five days a month, and can persist even throughout the menstrual cycle. Though postmenopausal women sometimes have breast pain, it is more common in younger, pre-menopausal women. In most cases, breast pain signals a non-cancerous (benign) breast condition and it rarely signifies breast cancer.
