Bursitis Health Center

Bursitis is a painful condition which affects the small fluid filled pads, called bursae, which act as cushions among the bones and the tendons and muscles near the joints. Bursitis occurs when a bursa becomes inflamed. The most common locations for bursitis are in the shoulders, elbows or hips. Bursitis can also occur in the knee, heel or the base of the big toe. Bursitis often occurs in joints which perform frequent repetitive motions.
