Catatonic Schizophrenia Health Center

Catatonic schizophrenia is a type of schizophrenia, a chronic mental illness in which reality is interpreted abnormally. Catatonic schizophrenia includes extremes of behavior. On one extreme of catatonic schizophrenia, a person is unable to speak, move or respond. At the other end of the spectrum, a person can be overexcited or hyperactive, and may involuntarily imitate sounds or movements of others. Catatonic schizophrenia is rare these days, thanks to improved schizophrenia treatment. In fact, being in a state of catatonia is more likely to occur with certain other mental illnesses.
