Chagas Disease Health Center

Chagas disease is an inflammatory infectious condition caused by a parasite found in the feces of the reduviid bug. Also known as American trypanosomiasis, Chagas disease can infect anyone, but is most commonly found in children. Chagas disease is common in South and Central Americas, and Mexico, which is the primary home of the reduviid bug. In recent years, rare cases of Chagas disease have been also found in the southern United States. If left untreated, Chagas disease may cause serious heart and digestive problems.
