Chondromalacia Patella Health Center

The cartilage under the kneecap (patella) is a natural shock absorber. Through overuse, injury or other factors a condition called chondromalacia patella may develop. Chondromalacia patella is a general term indicating damage to the cartilage under the kneecap. A more accurate term for chondromalacia patella is patellofemoral pain syndrome. The most common symptom is knee pain which increases while walking up or down stairs.
