Chronic sinusitis is a common condition in which the cavities around the nasal passages (sinuses) become inflamed or swollen. It usually lasts 12 weeks or more, despite treatment attempts. Known also as rhino-sinusitis, chronic sinusitis interferes with drainage and causes mucus buildup. People with chronic sinusitis find it difficult to breathe through the nose. The area around the eyes and face feels swollen and there is a throbbing facial pain or headache.
