Cold Urticaria Health Center

Cold urticaria, also called cold allergy, or cold hives, is an allergy to cold temperatures. With cold urticaria, exposure to cold temperatures can cause redness, itching, swelling and hives on the skin. People with cold urticaria should avoid exposure to cold air and cold water as much as possible. Swimming in cold water, for example, is the most common cause of a severe, whole body reaction which can lead to fainting, shock and even death.
