Colon Polyps Health Center

A colon polyp is a small clump of cells which forms on the lining of the colon. Though most colon polyps are harmless, some can become cancerous over time. Though anyone can develop colon polyps, the risks are higher for people who are over the age of 50, or for people who are overweight, heavy smokers, those who eat a high fat low fiber diet, or for people who have a personal or family history of colon polyps or colon cancer. Colon polyps usually do not cause symptoms, which is why experts recommend regular screening. Colon polyps which are found in early stages can usually be removed safely and completely.
