Convergence Insufficiency - Treatment

Treatment For Convergence Insufficiency

Treatment is generally not needed for people whose convergence insufficiency is not causing symptoms, but for people with symptoms, treatment with eye-focusing exercises can increase the eyes convergence ability.  These treatments can include:

Pencil push-ups - In this simple exercise, a person focuses on a small letter on the side of a pencil as they move it closer to the bridge of the nose, stopping the movement when having double vision.  The exercise is done 15 minutes a day, at least five times a week.

Computer vision therapy - Eye focusing exercises done on a computer using special software designed to improve convergence.

Reading glasses - Glasses with prisms built in force the eyes to work harder to align and are sometimes used for reading but can be tiring on the eyes and have not proved effective.
