Cyclospora Infection - Complications

Complications From Cyclospora Infection

The prolonged diarrhea of untreated cyclospora infection may cause dehydration.  Otherwise healthy adults can treat dehydration by drinking more fluids, but some people may need to be hospitalized to receive intravenous fluids because they may be at higher risk of dehydration.  Examples include:

  • People with compromised immune systems
  • Infants and young children
  • Older adults
