Dermatitis is a general term which describes an inflammation of the skin. There are various types of dermatitis, including seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis (eczema). Though the disorder can have numerous causes and occur in various forms, it usually involves swollen, reddened and itchy skin. Dermatitis is a common condition and it's typically not life-threatening or contagious.
