Diabetic Retinopathy Health Center

Diabetic retinopathy is a complications of diabetes which results from damage to the blood vessels in the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye (retina). Initially, diabetic retinopathy can cause no symptoms, or only mild vision problems. Eventually though, diabetic retinopathy can result in blindness. Diabetic retinopathy can develop in anyone who has type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The longer a person has diabetes and the less controlled their blood sugar is, the more likely they are to develop diabetic retinopathy.
