Kidney Disease - Prevention

How can you prevent chronic kidney disease?

Since the majority of chronic kidney disease is caused by diabetes and high blood pressure, treating these conditions is the most important way to prevent chronic kidney disease. Eating a well balanced diet, leading an active lifestyle, avoiding smoking, drinking alcohol and drugs can all help to prevent chronic kidney failure.

If you are tested and it turns out you already have kidney disease, then drugs called ACE inhibitors may be able to prevent or slow further damage to the kidneys.
