Pregnancy week by week Menu
Week 36
You:
Starting at week 36, you'll be seeing your doctor once a week until the birth and you will likely be given a vaginal exam. By this time, the average woman has gained 25 to 30 pounds, but if you're a little over or under, it's nothing to worry about, everyone is different. Chances are your baby is pointed head down, but a small minority of babies are breech. If your baby is breech, your doctor may give you exercises to do to try to get the baby to turn into the right position. Now is a good time to learn about breastfeeding.
Your baby:
By now the lungs are the only organ left to mature, the longer baby stays in the womb, the better the lungs will be able to breath after birth (up to 42 weeks). If it hasn't happened already, the baby may drop into the birth canal this week. The skin is getting very smooth, and fat is causing dimpling at the knees and elbows. The liver has started to process waste.
