Symptoms and Types

The symptoms of urinary incontinence are involuntary leakage of urine and inability to make it to the toilet in time to relieve oneself. Men can suffer from stress incontinence that's caused by straining actions such as sneezing, coughing, lifting objects, etc. Men can also suffer from urge incontinence. A third type of incontinence is called overflow incontinence, where the bladder does not empty fully, due to a blockage, usually from an enlarged prostate or scar tissue in the urethra.

Total incontinence is a constant leakage of urine due to a malfunctioning sphincter.
