Treatment

There are several different ways to treat urinary incontinence in men. The first strategy employed is usually behavioural strategies. This usually involves reducing consumption of liquids, avoiding caffeinated or carbonated beverages, sticking to a urination schedule.

Exercise is another strategy, especially Kegel exercises that target the muscles that control the bladder.

Medications including antispasmodics and anticholinergics can relax the bladder to treat urge incontinence. Antibiotics can be used to treat incontinence if it's caused  by an infection. Also, avoiding certain medications may reduce or eliminate incontinence.

Surgery is used as a last resort if other treatments can't work. In the case of overflow incontinence, self-catheterization can be used if surgery is not a good option.

If the urge or overlfow incontinence is caused by an enlarged prostate gland, then that condition can be treated with medicine, surgery or by other means.

Absorbent pads can be used as a temporary way of managing the problem, or indefinitely if no other treatments work.
