Define Motivation

Motivation can be defined in a number of ways. In general, it is described as a driving force that initiates and directs activities. It refers to the initiation, direction, strength and determination of human behavior. In other words, motivation is a type of internal energy that compels an individual to do some actions for attaining something. It is a dynamic or temporal status within a person that is not disturbed with his or her behavior. In short, motivation is very important because it can help individuals to perform their tasks to the best of their ability. There are various types of motivation including attitude motivation, power motivation, competence motivation, affiliation motivation and achievement motivation.

Mainly, motivation is based on three distinct aspects: arousal of behavior, direction of behavior, and persistence of behavior. Arousal of behavior comprises what activates human behavior and direction of behavior is related with what directs behavior towards a specific target. Persistence of behavior is connected with how the behavior is continued. Various researches have been carried out to understand the different motives that direct a person to an achievement. Motives are arranged into three categories: homeostatic motives; non-homeostatic motives; learned motives or social motives. Almost all the types of motivating factors belong to one or more of these three classes.

Motives such as hunger, thirst, excretion and respiration are included in homeostatic motives. Non-homeostatic motives comprise necessary activities such as looking for shelter and curiosity about the surrounding factors. Curiosity - an aspiration for novelty, achievement, endorsement, social relationship and power - is regarded as learned or social motives.

Basically there are three foundational reasons why you lose motivation in your life: lack of confidence, no focus and no direction. By increasing concentration, build confidence and knowing where you are heading the solutions for these problems. Motivational techniques are useful for anyone especially for teachers, parents, leaders and employers.

Motivation is necessary to become successful in any attempt you embark on. It can be negative or positive, obvious or subtle, tangible or intangible. As it plays a key role in the efficient performance of employees, it is very significant in workplaces. In industry or commercial enterprises, managers play a vital role in employee motivation. In any organization, motivating employees is one of the prime responsibilities of a manager. They make use of diverse motivation techniques to progress productivity and thereby encourage cooperation between employers and employees.

Motivation is also interrelated with learning. In education, instructors also employ various motivation techniques to motivate the students to study. It can make a student more knowledgeable. It is crucial to increase student motivation. Motivation also encourages problem-solving skills and self-confidence.

The importance of motivation is very imperative for most individuals in their day-by-day circumstances. In a sports team, motivation helps in improving their skills, raising confidence and attaining success. The members can improve their motivation level through wisdom, communication and team building activities. There are a number of diverse approaches of motivation training, but critics regard most of them pseudoscientific.
