Lexapro is generally prescribed for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). It has a long list of side effects as well as withdrawal side effects. The most common adverse events reported with Lexapro are nausea, insomnia, ejaculation disorder, increased sweating and somnolence. Fatigue, decreased libido and anorgasmia are also very commonly found. You can continue the medicine if you experience the side effects such as headache, nervousness, anxiety, changes in appetite or weight, diarrhea and dry mouth. In most people, these symptoms recover with time, with no need for any treatment.

By using this medicine, sometimes the heart rate will speed up to above 100 beats per minute. A low percentage of patients taking Lexapro have reported sexual side effects, mainly ejaculatory delay in men. Lack of emotional and mental balance; sudden, severe, uncontrollable abdominal cramp or pain, noisy release of gas from the stomach through the mouth, weight loss, decreases in blood sodium levels, liver problems and uncontrolled muscle tension are also associated with this medication. Some serious but less common side effects include chest palpitations, suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts and sleeping difficulties.

Some people who are taking Lexapro may experience physically weak condition, severe discomfort in the chest, high body temperature and uncontrolled leg discomfort. Allergic reactions associated with this medicine include asthma, skin rashes, wheezing, hay fever, unexplained swelling, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing. Decreased sex drive, impotence or difficulty having an orgasm is also the common side effects of this drug. These are found in only three percent of men who are taking Lexapro. Hair loss is a very rarely found adverse reaction.

About two percent of people experience burning sensations such as skin crawling, tingling, numbness or itching. Dont stop taking the drug without discussing it with your physician. Sudden stopping of Lexapro can result in withdrawal symptoms such as irritability agitation, dizziness, burning or tingling sensation, anxiety, confusion, headache, insomnia and tiredness.

Drinking alcohol during this medication is not recommended. As with any other medicine, Lexapro overdose also shows the symptoms drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, increased heart rate, low blood pressure, irregular heart rhythm, insomnia, coma and seizures. In rare cases, loss of life may be happened. Do not use this medicine during pregnancy. Other medicines commonly prescribed for anxiety disorder are Prozac, Norpramin, Wellbutrin, Tofranil, Pamelor, Desyrel, Marplan, Nardil, Parnate and Zoloft.
