Wellbutrin Review

Wellbutrin - an antidepressant generally prescribed for the treatment of depression. As with any other drugs, it also has a number of side effects. The most common side effects of this medicine include constipation, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, increased sweating, shakiness, insomnia, appetite loss, blurred vision, rapid heart rate, hostility, irregular heart rhythm and hearing changes. Especially these adverse effects are found shortly after beginning the treatment. Clinical trials prove that these symptoms are sometimes severe; and need treatments with other sedative or hypnotic drugs.

Headache or migraine is one of the common side effects of Wellbutrin. With the use of this medicine, some people experience menstrual problems, feelings of a rapidly or forcefully heart beating, indigestion, arthritis, taste changes, low blood pressure and fainting. Sometimes, it may cause sexual side effects such as decreased sex drive, impotence or erectile dysfunction. A large number of patients who are treated with Wellbutrin experience increased agitation, anxiety, increased appetite and dry mouth. In addition, weight loss is occurred around 28% of patients receiving Wellbutrin.

When taking this medication, some individuals feel increased depression and a lot of restlessness. Allergic reactions to this drug include itching, rash, swelling, trouble breathing, severe dizziness, muscle aches, joint pain and fever. Some patients taking Wellbutrin have shown a variety of neuropsychiatric signs and symptoms that includes hallucinations, psychotic episodes, delusions, confusion and paranoia. The daily dose of Wellbutrin should not exceed 150mg for patients receiving sympathomimetic anorectic drugs, insulin or anti-malaria agents.

Hypertension is also reported by some patients. It is observed in patients with and without pre-existing high blood pressure. The medicine does not provide any safety for people who have a recent history of myocardial infarction or unstable heart disease. The medication should not be used by patients having previous or current diagnosis of anorexia or bulimia. It is not perfect for individuals who are undertaking sudden discontinuation of alcohol or sedatives. Adverse reactions due to overdose include respiratory failure, muscle rigidity, fever, rhabdomyolysis, stupor, hypotension, and coma.

Similar to any other medicine, it is essential to seek advice from a physician before discontinuing Wellbutrin. About 30% of patients who discontinue this medication experience withdrawal symptoms such as muscle aches, headaches, nausea etc. Usually, it will last 1 to 2 weeks.
