ZoloftZoloft is an antidepressant prescribed for panic disorder, compulsive-obsessive disorder, depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorders. Its reaction with the chemicals in brain results depression, unbalanced states, obsessive and compulsive symptoms, anxiety and panic.
Call your healthcare provider immediately, if you have any worsening or new symptoms like panic attacks, behavior or mood changes, irritable, trouble sleeping, impulsive feelings, agitated, hyperactive (physically or mentally), anxiety, restless, aggressive and hostile. Some times the medicine brings more depression and thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Less serious side effects that are more probable to take place include drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, changes in weight or appetite, decreased sex drive, difficulty having an orgasm and impotence. If you have any allergic type reactions like difficulty in breathing, skin hives or rash and swelling of your lips, face, tongue or throat, then seek emergency medical help. Overdose of this medication may cause the symptoms of dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, agitation, tremor, confusion, seizures, and coma. Furthermore, you may experience some unpleasant side effects if you stop using the medicine suddenly.
If you are person below 24 years old, thoughts about suicide may occur when you begin to take this medicine. Zoloft is approved only for the treatment of obsessive and uncontrollable disorders in children above 6 years and older. If you have a history of heart disease, liver or kidney disorders, bleeding problems, seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before taking the medication. Tell your doctor if you have bipolar disorder or manic depression, history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts.
In the case of children, Zoloft is approved for patients who are suffering from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is not prescribed for children with depression. It may cause life-threatening or dangerous lung problems in newborn babies whose mothers use this medication in the period of pregnancy. For this reason, avoid Zoloft during pregnancy or planning to become pregnant. If you are breast feeding a baby, dont take this medicine without consulting your healthcare professional.
Do not take Zoloft together with other medicines like Orap, Marplan, Nardil, Azilect, Eldepryl, Emsam, or Parnate. Other popular medicines used as antidepressant are Remeron, Serzone, Desyrel, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, Effexor, Pamelor, Tofranil, Norpramin and Elavil.
