The flu can put you out of commission for a week or longer, making you undproductive and miserable. Fortunately, there are several ways to avoid getting the flu and to minimize its impact once you get it.
Your first line of defence against the flu is the Flue Shot, which is a vaccine. Since the flu season is in the winter, the best time to get a flu shot in America is in October or November. This protects you against most flu strains and minimizes your chances of getting the flu during flu season. However, it is still possible to get the flu even if you've had a vaccination.
If you do get the flu, there are several Treatment options. Antiviral medications can be used to reduce the length of the flu by one or two days. Relenza and Tamiflu are the two antivirals most recommended. They should both be administered within 48 hours of the onset of flu Symptoms.
Other things you can do to speed up the recovery process include:
-get as much rest as you can
-stay well hydrated by drinking lots of fluids
-take acetaminophen for fever
