Colon Cleanse Internet Marketers Ordered To Stop Unfair Billing
US District Court told internet marketers of acai weight loss pills and colon cleansers to halt their unfair billing and deceptive advertisements.
The FTC (Federal Trade Commision) estimated about a million people have been tricked into a free trial that ended up charged on their credit card. "There are too many 'free' offers that come with strings attached." said the director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. "In this case, the defendants promised buyers a 'risk free' trial and then illegaly billed their credit cards over and over."
FTC also adds that some of the sites even include fake endorsements from celebreties such as Oprah Winfrey and Rachel Ray.
The assets of Arizona based Central Coast Nutraceuticals have been frozen by the FTC and the company has been charged, along with two individuals and four related companies for their false health claims and deceptive business conduct. The company, marketing AcaiPure and Colopure, has taken around $30 million from consumers in 2009 through their internet sales scheme, alleges FTC.
