Friday, December 18, 2009

Many people remain ignorant about diabetes which is why it has become an epidemic in America. There are several things that people are doing that put them at greater risk for diabetes. By avoiding the following habits, you can cut your risk of getting diabetes.

1. Skipping breakfast

People who eat breakfast are one third less likely to be obese or have blood sugar problems, both of which are risk factors for diabetes.

2. Stress

Stress can release hormones that raise blood sugar levels.

3. Staying up late

Those who don't get enough deep sleep are at greater risk of blood sugar problems and diabetes.

4. Beer gut

Being overweight in the belly area puts you at greater risk for diabetes.

5. Not exercising

Physical activity lowers blood sugar levels and thus helps to prevent diabetes.

It is best to avoid these habits. There are also several things you should do to prevent diabetes. Getting plenty of exercise, eating mulberry leaf extract before big meals, and maintaining a healthy weight can all help to reduce the risk of diabetes.
