Healthy Lifestyle Reduces Risk of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer for women, but the risk of developing it can be reduced significantly by leading a healthy lifestyle. In fact, a few small changes in lifestyle can reduce the risk by about 40 percent.

The lifestyle activities that can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer include opting to breast feed your child over bottle feeding, eating a healthy diet, limiting alcohol consumption to one drink per day and getting at least half an hour of exercise daily. Maintaining a healthy body weight is very important for reducing the risk. Diets should be mostly plant based with limited consumption of red meat.

Weight gain of 34 pounds can increase the risk of breast cancer by 68 percent in younger women. With age, the risk increases. Over the age of 40, gaining 12 pounds can double the risk of breast cancer.

The report is based on approximately 1,000 scientific studies, so the information is considered very accurate. If you are high risk for breast cancer, you can reduce the risk by exercising and eating healthy foods, maintaining healthy body weight and limiting alcohol consumption. There are also other health benefits to be derived from following these guidelines, so it is highly recommended for all women.
