New Breast Enlargement Procedure Growing in Popularity

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

There is a new breast enlargement procedure in the UK that is growing in popularity and may eventually become available in the US. The procedure is called the boob jab and does not involve surgery.

It involves injecting the sides of the breast with Macrolane, a gel made of hyaluronic acid which makes the breasts larger and firmer. The substance is biodegradable and is eventually expelled by the body. The results are not as dramatic as getting breast implants, and the effects only last for about 18 months, but for many women this is preferable to going under the knife.

At current prices, Macrolane is more costly than breast implants when time is taken into account, but prices are dropping. Since it only requires one stitch in each breast, there is little risk of scarring with Macrolane. However, there have been some resports of adverse effects from Macrolane, including loss of volume, encapsulation, or hardening of the breast tissue and the formation of lumps.
