Proper Gym Etiquette

Friday, August 21, 2009

Nobody likes a rude gym member. If you are a good gym member, you stand a better chance of making friends, and maybe even getting some dates. The following guidelines should keep you in everybody's good books at the gym.

1. Don't make noise.

Avoid using a cell phone while at the gym if possible. Also don't talk during an exercise class.

2. Clean the machines after using them.

Germs can be passed through sweat, and for most people, the coming into contact with another person's sweat is pretty gross. Be considerate and always clean off the machines after you use them, even if they don't seem sweaty. You can also lay down a clean towel to avoid sweating onto machines and avoid contact with the sweat of others.

3. Let weights down gently

Don't let the weights drop suddenly, because the noise is unpleasant and startling. If you can't handle the weights, then try something lighter. Also put the weights back where they belong when you are finished.

4. Learn to share

Many gyms don't have enough equipment to go around, so it's important not to hog it and let other people get access to it.

5. Prevent BO

Clean your workout clothes on a regular basis and be sure to shower thoroughly after you are done.
