Relieving Allergies Naturally

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

There are several ways to deal with allergies without resorting to the use of medication which often has side effects such as drowsiness.

The first thing to do is to minimize allergic reactions by minimizing your exposure to dust, pollen, pet dander. It is best to use a HEPA filter in your vacuum. Even hypnosis may work, just by thinking about an allergen free environment such as the beach you can reduce hay fever symptoms.

There are also some natural supplements that can reduce the symptoms of allergies. Quercetin is found in onions, apples and citrus fruits, and acts as a natural antihistamine. Histamine is the chemical that is produced during an allergic reaction and is responsible for the symptoms of allergies. Another supplement that can reduce allergy symptoms for hay fever is an herb called Butterbur. You should start taking one or both of these supplements several weeks before allergy season starts up.

If you do get allergy symptoms, then treat them with the herb stinging nettle, which can disrupt the inflammation.
