Toxins In Antibacterial Soaps Damage Thyroids

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

The NRDC (Natural Resources Defence Council) has announced it is suing the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) alleging that the FDA failed to regulate toxic materials found in antibacterial soaps and other toiletry products.

According to NRDC, toxins Triclosan and Triclocarban, found in many toiletry products, act as endocrine disruptors, thus damaging reproductive organs, quality of sperm and interfering with production of thyroid and reproductive hormones.

CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has recently released data that shows levels of triclosan have increased in humans by an average of 50% in the past six years.  According to a new study, both Triclosan and Triclocarban can enter the food chain through contaminated waste water or fertalizer that is used in agriculture.
