Using Your Mind to Help You Lose Weight

Friday, December 18, 2009

One of the keys to losing weight is using your mind. By eliminating negative beliefs, feelings and behaviors, you can avoid the pitfalls that cause many to fail in their quest to lose weight.

Having the right mindset is crucial for achieving lasting weight loss. Negative feelings about diet or exercise, or positive feelings about high fat high calorie foods will inevitably cause people to fail.

Often negative mindsets are developed in childhood, so the mind needs to be reprogrammed to prepare for successful and lasting weight loss. Special weight loss coaches are used to help change the mindset.

The following steps are recommended to help you achieve your weight loss goals:

1. establish what you want to achieve and why

2. identify negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones

3. set realistic goals

4. be aware of the reasons you eat that aren't related to nutrition and replace them with more positive behavior

5. focus on the positive things in you life and be grateful so you feel happy
